OUR BEAN TO BAR RANGE - OUR FAIRTRADE RANGE

Our Latest Creations

Our very latest creation is our Gianduja hazelnut chocolates, which we are super proud of!

Gianduja originated in Turin in the early 19th century as a way to make the limited chocolate available at the time go further. A chocolatier named Michele Prochet combined cacao with hazelnuts from the hills south of Turin to create a soft chocolate and hazelnut treat, which we have brought back to life!

Over time Gianduja has morphed into modern chocolate pastes and spreads, which have many more unhealthy ingredients and much lower chocolate content. Our Gianduja squares go back to basics, containing only chocolate, hazelnuts, coconut sugar, cold-pressed rapeseed oil and a little salt. We don’t think spoiling yourself gets much better than this!

Also new is our Piura Blanco bean-to-bar chocolate, a surprisingly fruity cacao, that is so light of colour that it is a real joy to work with.

Our Bean-to-Bar Chocolate

Bean-to-bar is a chocolate making approach not all that many people have heard of, but we’re huge advocates of the method and hope to help grow this approach to chocolate!

Most commercial chocolate is made with a combination of young cacao varieties grown in Western Africa, with no sense of identity or history. It’s also an industry that has sadly become rife with atrocities, including child and slave labour.

Bean-to-bar chocolate maker’s mission is to end such attrocities and bring back the identity to chocolate that has been lost over the years. We therefore use only single origin cacaos in our bean-to-bar range, most having histories dating back thousands of years to the native people of central and south America, where cacao originates. We love to tell the stories behind our cacaos, which you can find here:

OUR BEAN-TO-BAR STORIES

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Coco Caravan works only with the best criollo cacao there is to find combined with truly pure, unrefined creamy Coconut Blossom Nectar or in it’s evaporated form Coconut Sugar.

The combination of pure cacao and the sweetness of the coconut flower gives our chocolate its smooth melt and fantastic clean taste.

We choose to work with the simplest processes and leave out any additives or preservatives. All our products are completely vegan, dairy free, egg free, gluten free and free of soy additives. All our cacao and nectar are from certified fair trade sources.

This pure chocolate is hand crafted in Stroud, UK. A small team works with passion on our range of vegan treats from fruits dipped in chocolate, caramel filled bars to our speciality bean to bar chocolate that is made directly from the cacao beans.

The sourcing of our cacao is done with 3 principles: environmental impact, social impact and quality. We aim to work with indigenous communities and support them in their independence.

AWARDS & ACCREDITATIONS

ARHUACO 100% : GOLD MEDAL

Jacques meeting the Arhuacos in Bogata - sharing cacao and buying my bag.

Empowering the Arhuaco people to preserve their ancestral lands and cacaos in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Colombia.

Forced into the highlands for centuries by conquistadors, settlers and the coca wars, the Arhuaco tribe has recently returned to their sacred sites at the Caribbean coast. On the same land where coca and marijuana fueled the violence of the drug war not long ago, cacao is now the symbol of peace for the Arhuaco and their neighbours. However, of the little cacao that has survived the passing of times on their ancestral land, the harvest volumes are modest.

CHUNCHO 75% CHOCHOLATE
Review by Schokomanie

Smells very cool and gingerbread. The taste is as artsy as the chocolate bar and the smell. This chocolate is far away from the mainstream. Instantly stands out a strong bleed perfume roses, lavender, lychee ... really intense.
